S.A.L.T.'s Accomplishments in 2004:

1. Establishment of a local church of Christ at Maekang Mai village in Omkoi town, Chiangmai province. It is a Karen hill tribe church up on the mountains reachable in five-hour drive from Chiangmai City over rugged & hilly roads. The Christians who were baptized in 2003 secured a piece of property on a hilly place. It was leveled on April 2004 for the future construction of a house of worship. They started building in November 2004. This church is in addition to the present established churches: six in Nan province, three in Chiangmai province, one in Chiangrai province, and one in the city of Chiangmai itself.

2. Initial construction of the day care center facility at Baan Haen in Nan province. This village is a seven-hour drive from the city of Chiangmai.

3. Successful operation of the Roong Aroon Children’s Home (first school year 2003-2004) in Chiangmai City. Second school year began in May 2004 with nineteen children from six ethnic groups: Thai, Kachin, Lahu, Akha, Mong, Mien. They were nurtured with a balanced diet and given an opportunity to study in a regular Thai school. They interacted and worked together in the Home and were taught regularly in the way of the Lord. Through the children’s involvement with the church’s ministries, several have learned to be song and activity leaders and give testimonies and devotions. Their leadership abilities, talents and spiritual gifts have been polished, and they are now more brave and confident in expressing their faith in God.

4. Held the Children’s Home summer camp at Maewan Resort in March 2004. Seven from the Home and a friend were baptized. A week later, another girl from the Home and four young people from the church were baptized.

5. More baptisms. A couple was baptized in a man-made lake in April 2004.

6. Third Annual Convention of the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in October 2004. We co-founded this yearly gathering of Restoration Movement brotherhood. Virgilio was president of the second convention. Esther was in-charge of program, Christian education and co-chaired the Music & Worship Committee with James. Hannah was involved with the young people, praise team, an instrumentalist, and in-charge of screen presentations. During the third convention, Virgilio served as treasurer, Esther as program coordinator, and an instrumentalist. James was worship leader and part of the praise team. Nerissa was part of the fund-raising department. Hannah took care of the designing for the convention, such as the program and screen presentation. She was also a worship leader, part of the praise team and one of the leaders for the young people’s activities. The convention from the first and third time was well attended by four to five hundreds of our Christian Church/Church of Christ brethren.

7. Establishment of Lanna Christian College. This is the result of the merger of Center for Biblical Studies and Chiangmai Bible Institute. Virgilio was in the committee of eight people that met once a month for a year to make this merger a reality. Esther and Virgilio taught in both Bible schools. In September 2004, 40 graduated.

10. Helped many families with their needs, funded their livelihood, that is, computer business, monetary help for food and shelter, and educational needs of children outside of the Children’s Home.

11. Growth of Roong Aroon Christian Church’s ministries. There has been advancement in the music and worship ministries. The church is becoming more locally known because of the worship team’s involvement in local Christian activities with Thailand Bible Society. The young people’s ministries are also advancing. After finishing college in April 2004, Hannah has been working with the mission full time. She has become more fully involved with the youth and young adults ministries as being the youth leader. She and the youth committee have been involved in arranging more outreach events and activities every month, such as the Christmas outreach program they held at a local elementary school. The number of outreach events and activites have increased in year 2004. Together, they have helped the church establish and train the younger generation in becoming leaders, evangelists and worship musicians.
